• CBC Calgary Food Bank Drive looks to raise $1M with new events, partners The CBC Calgary Food Bank Drive began yesterday. They have a goal of $1 million. • Smithsonian Accepts ALS "Ice Bucket" for Philanthropy Exhibition If you are looking for something to do in Washington , the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has opened a long-term exhibition called "Giving in America". The exhibition showcases four major themes of American philanthropy centered on the questions of "Who Gives?" "Why Do We Give?" "What Do We Give?" and "How Do We Give?" and uses artifacts ranging from an alms box of the 1800s to a bucket used during the 2014–15 "ALS Ice Bucket Challenge." (11/29/16)

• Ottawa Art Gallery gets $1.5-million donation John Ruddy, Executive Chairman of the Trinity Development Group and part-owner of the Grey Cup-winning Ottawa REDBLACKS football team, along with his wife Jennifer, have donated $1.5-million to the Ottawa Art Gallery's Art Now-L’art ici Capital Campaign. • Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute receives $31 million donation Jeffrey A. Cole and Patricia O'Brien Cole have made a $31 million commitment to help the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute expand its clinical and surgical capabilities primarily through a future expansion to the existing facility, to be named the Jeffrey and Patricia Cole Building. Jeffrey Cole served as chairman and CEO for Cole National, which was founded by his late father, Joseph E. The donation is the single largest gift from a private donor for a public/private partnership benefitting the City of Dallas. • University of Denver Receives $10 Million for Philanthropy Institute The University of Denver has received a $10 million gift from Laura Barton and her family in support of a new multidisciplinary institute dedicated to the study of philanthropy and social enterprise. Made in honor of Barton's late husband, Peter R. Barton, the gift will provide seed capital and long-term funding for the Barton Institute for Philanthropy and Social Enterprise and support its effort to promote and enhance traditional and new forms of philanthropy, social enterprise, and partnerships within and among the private, public, nonprofit, and academic sectors. • $5M donation made to Richardson Complex restoration A multi-million dollar donation has been announced as part of a final financial push to continue restoration efforts at what is now called the Richardson Complex, an on-going redevelopment of the former Buffalo Psychiatric Center. The Architectural Center at the complex will be named after the late Stan Lipsey and his wife Judith. Lipsey was the long-time publisher of the Buffalo News and passed away November 1st at the age of 89. His estate has donated $5 million to the project. (11/22/16)
