  • How impact investing is changing philanthropy The "Big Four" foundations (the Case Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Kresge Foundation, and the MacArthur Foundation) recently met at the Mission Investors Exchange conference in Baltimore. They agreed that they have a significant role to play in "impact investing". (5/12/16)

  • UTRGV business school receives donation of $15 million The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley announced Wednesday that their College of Business & Entrepreneurship will receive a $15 million donation from Robert C. Vacker, CEO of Bert Ogden Auto Group. UTRGV will be naming the business school after Mr. Vacker. The college will be renamed to the Robert C. Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship. (5/18/16)

  • National Arts Centre receives $1.5M donation from Janice and Earle O'Born NAC is on a roll! Janice O'Born is a director on the NAC Foundation board. This is the third large private donation to the National Arts Centre since April. CANADIAN STORY (5/18/16)

  • Lakeland Police Foundation gets $1 million donation for Fallen Heroes Memorial park The donation, from an anonymous donor, will be directed to support the construction and maintenance of the Fallen Heroes Memorial park in Lakeland, Florida. (5/18/16)

  • Tel Aviv University nabs $50m donation The Tel Aviv University School of Management has received a $50 million donation from UK businessman Jeremy Coller. Mr. Coller is the founder of Coller Capital, one of the world's leading private secondary capital funds. The donation will be used for research and development, study programs, and teaching. The School of Management will now be named after Coller. (5/18/16)

  • YSU receives $1 million donation for scholarship fund Youngstown State University in Ohio has received a donation from Flor “Shorty” Navarro and wife Elba Lillian, to support increasing the number of campus jobs for students. (5/18/16)

  • Harvard gets $35 million to study early childhood education The Saul Zaentz Charitable Foundation has made this gift to support one of the largest studies on early eduation since the 1970s. Saul Zaentz was an award-winning film producer of a number of films including "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". (5/18/16)

  • CollegeBound receives $3.5 million donation for more resources for Baltimore students This Baltimore-based program is a safety net for students who would not be otherwise able to continue with College because their scholarships have run out. Local philanthropists Mark and Patricia Joseph recently announced a $3.5 million donation to CollegeBound. (5/17/16)

  • COLLEGETOWN GIFT: $25M donation for Cornell center The Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management will expand into Collegetown, thanks to a $25 million gift from Cornell University alumnus, David Breazzano. (5/17/16)

  • BC Sikh community motors in million-dollar donation for Fort McMurray evacuees I love our country. From Acadians in Atlantic Canada to Sikhs in British Columbia, we take care of our own. The Lower Mainland Sikh Community collected five semi truckloads of donated goods worth over $1 million for Fort McMurray. CANADIAN STORY (5/16/16)

  • $16M donation to boost charter school brand in Austin Yay Austin! A public, tuition-free chain of charter schools, IDEA Public Schools, will have 26 Austin locations by 2022 thanks to donation from the KLE Foundation, which aims to create equity in education among low-income and minority students.   • FedEx Announces Donation To LeMoyne-Owen College My guess: The cheque arrived on time. FedEx has committed $1 million to this Memphis-based college to support information technology upgrades. (5/14/16)

  • DePauw lands $20 million donation from longtime trusteee DePauw University has received a $20 million gift from longtime trustee Don Daseke and his wife, Barbara. The donation was given to the Campaign for DePauw, bringing the fundraising effort at the 2,200-student college in Greencastle, Indiana within $14 million of its goal of $300 million. (5/13/16)

  • $10 million donation from 2 families aims to tackle dementia The Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation and The Lauder Foundation have each donated $5 million to create the Treat Frontotemporal Degeneration Fund. The fund is a joint venture of The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation and The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration. (5/12/16)

  • Rady family gifts $30M to University of Manitoba health sciences The University of Manitoba has received the largest philanthropic gift in its 139-year history, a $30-million donation from philanthropists Ernest and Evelyn Rady, through the Rady Family Foundation. Ernest Rady was a former owner of the San Diego Padres baseball team. The University of Manitoba is renaming its Faculty of Health Sciences in honour of this gift. CANADIAN STORY (5/12/16)

  • UCLA’s Art School to Build $31 Million Studio Complex With Major Donation The University of California Los Angeles’s School of the Arts and Architecture is planning to add a $31-million studio complex that will be slated to open in 2019. The plan for the 75,000-square-foot building for graduate students was originally conceived in 2011, but was shelved due to a lack of funds. The project is being revived after a major donation was gifted to the school by art dealer Margo Leavin. While the amount of the gift has not been revealed, sources have guessed that the funding might be about $20 million. (5/12/16)
