  • This year, Juneteenth was celebrated on Wednesday, June 19th. Juneteenth takes place each year on June 19th. You can honor and celebrate this time to demonstrate your commitment to inclusivity and the Black community. During the week of Juneteenth, remember to also take meaningful action to support and empower the Black community. Actions speak louder than words.

  • Star-struck Indigenous Sask. girl heading to NASA Space Camp in Alabama (CBC) SASKATCHEWAN STORY #WhatAJourney "Tallica Robson has always been a child who reaches for the stars. The 10-year-old, who wants to be an astrophysicist, says her interest in the topic took off when she came across a book at school called The Mysteries of the Universe. 'I kept reading that book over and over again and studying it and then eventually I fell in love with space,' Tallica said."

  • A new Métis language video series is using puppets to help educate kids (CBC) ALBERTA STORY You can check out an episode here. #ILovePuppets "A new Métis language educational puppet video series is premiering [...] in Edmonton. Michif Makers follows the story of two cousins, William and Angelique, who explore the Michif language with help from their animal friends. The series' creator and puppeteer, Christopher White, joined CBC Radio's Edmonton AM with his puppet William to talk about the premiere — and why these language revitalization measures are so important."

The Amir and Saker Manji Healing Garden was named after Amir Manji, who went through his own cancer journey, and comes following a $500,000 donation toward the centre from his family. 'Being able to give back to the Jack Ady Cancer Centre where people from Lethbridge and the surrounding area can receive care that is needed and best in class, here, where they call home, really matters to us,' said Natasha Manji, one of Amir's daughters."

  3. Playoff benching pushes Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner 'to fight my way' (CBC) EDMONTON STORY #GoOilers "Stuart Skinner wasn't happy — with himself or the situation. The Oilers goaltender had been pulled after surrendering four goals on just 15 shots as part of a 4-3 loss to the Canucks in Game 3 of the teams' second-round playoff series.   8. Willie Mays, baseball great and electrifying 'Say Hey Kid,' has died at 93 (CBC) Remembering this great man is a wonderful way to celebrate Juneteenth. RIP Mr. Mays. We will not see your like again. "Willie Mays, the electrifying 'Say Hey Kid' whose singular combination of talent, drive and exuberance made him one of baseball's greatest and most beloved players, has died. He was 93. Mays's family and the San Francisco Giants jointly announced Tuesday night he had died earlier in the afternoon in the Bay Area. 'My father has passed away peacefully and among loved ones,' son Michael Mays said in a statement released by the club."

  9. Dementia-friendly public park planned for Calgary (CTV) CALGARY STORY I love this! "Plans have been announced for the construction of a new first-of-it's-kind dementia-friendly public park in southeast Calgary [...]. Barb Ferguson, executive director of Alzheimer Calgary, says the park has been purposely designed for people with dementia. 'Safety is really important for people with dementia, so pathways will be built so people can't get lost,' she explained. 'And they'll use a lot of shrubs and greenery to make sure that people can't wander off out of the park.' "

How a multimillion-dollar deal with the Girl Guides solved an Alberta town's water issues (CBC) COCHRANE STORY #IHeartThis " 'Girl Guides of Canada is pleased to transfer the Camp Jubilee water licence to the Town of Cochrane. "Speedo has announced a $1M gift to USA Swimming as part of the brand’s initiative to diversify swimming through its campaign for change, Speedo’s Swim United, which aims to make swimming accessible to all."

  3. University of Rochester receives $50M donation for new disabilities institute (FingerLakes.com) "The University of Rochester announced a $50 million donation from local philanthropist Tom Golisano to create the Golisano Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Institute. This new center will focus on the care and research of intellectual and developmental disabilities, marking the largest single donation in the university’s history."
