Carmen Haakstad 

Carmen Haakstad oversees the external relations division at Grande Prairie Regional College, working collaboratively with internal departments and external community members and stakeholders to advance GPRC as the post-secondary institution of choice for the Northwestern Alberta Region. With more than 38 years of experience in development and fundraising services, Carmen is responsible for overseeing the building of relationships in bringing community and capital together to support the College’s goals and objectives. 

Born and raised just outside Grande Prairie, Alberta, Carmen has been involved in a wide range of beloved fundraising events around the city including the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie Annual Art Gallery, Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation’s Festival of Trees, and the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie’s Dream Home Lottery. Currently, Carmen oversees major fundraising efforts within the College including the President’s Ball, College Classic, Vital Campaign and the Alumni Foundation. 

Before becoming Vice-President External Relations, a position he has held for 11 years, he was the Executive Director of the GPRC Foundation for 5 years. 

Carmen is an artist, painter, husband, father and grandfather.
