Joanne Cuthbertson
Joanne Cuthbertson LL.D. is a passionate advocate for young people, public education and issues of quality of life in the community, and has been involved in organizations with similar values as a volunteer, champion, philanthropist and mentor.
The spectrum of her work includes the Glenbow Museum, EducationMatters-Calgary’s Public Education Trust, Alberta Bone & Joint Health Institute, Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta Arts Awards Foundation, Canadian Stem Cell Foundation, Hull Child & Family Services, Prairieaction Foundation, United Way of Calgary & Area, UNICEF Alberta Regional Advisory Council, and Child & Youth Friendly Calgary.
Cuthbertson founded SPEAK, Support Public Education-Act for Kids in Calgary in 1997.
From 2006-10, she served as Chancellor of the University of Calgary - Scholars Academy and the Chancellor Cuthbertson Student Success Centre are legacies of her term.
Presently, she serves as director and Leadership Council Co-chair of Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and continues to serve on various UCalgary advisory councils.
She is the recipient of the Calgary Award (Education) and the QEII Diamond Jubilee Medal.
