- 2016 Calgary Herald Christmas Fund recipient application process The Calgary Herald has been running this fund since 1991. Each year, a committee of Calgary Herald staff members assembles and reviews applications from local agencies that have applied to be a part of the Calgary Herald Christmas Fund. The final list of recipients includes local not-for-profit organizations that will benefit from the funds raised. APPLY TODAY - REGISTRATION IS OPEN UNTIL TUESDAY, MAY 24.

- CORPORATE PHILANTHROPY INCREASED FROM 2012-2014 According to this study by CEFP and The Conference Board, "corporate philanthropic contributions totaled at $18.5 billion in “cash and in-kind giving,” and “corporate giving” grew by 56 percent for these firms between 2012 and 2014." (5/2/16)

- The Percy Hedley Foundation receives £1 million donation to kick-start our new appeal This U.K. based Foundation plays a crucial role in improving the lives of people with physical disabilities. This gift, from the St. James Foundation, will support the development of vital new facilities at Hedleys Percy Hedley School in Killingworth, North Tyneside. (5/4/16)
- Mary's Place receives $2 million thanks to matching donation from Amazon's Jeff Bezos Jeff Bezos and Amazon offered to match up to $1 million. Mary's Place, a family shelter in Seattle, found the other $1 million so match it they did. Jeff Bezos is not known for showing his heart very often. Glad to see that, as suspected, he has one. - Blues to make donation to support victims of Alberta wildfires; Fiddler has relatives that live in that area Yes, those Blues, the St. Louis Blues. They are donating the proceeds of their 50/50 raffle and from a silent auction to support the victims of the Ft. McMurray fire. Blues forward Scottie Upshall is from Fort McMurry, and Stars forward Vernon Fiddler has relatives there. Both said their families are safe. Wow! Thanks so much Blues! We are truly touched. - RAVENS MAKE DONATION TO RENOVATE BALTIMORE POLICE STATION Yes, it is Baltimore. No, it is not the Baltimore Ravens. Confused? Don't be. The Ravens are a group of civic-minded philanthropists in the Baltimore area. They are making at $2.4 million gift to support the renovation of the police station which was the epicenter of the Baltimore riots in 2015. Nice gift folks. (5/4/16)
- Belmont gets biggest donation in its 125-year history The Ayers Foundation made a $15 million donation that will go toward need-based scholarships for students. The Ayers Foundation was created by FirstBank Chairman Jim Ayers and is led by his wife Janet Ayers. Belmont University is located in Nashville, Tennessee. (5/4/16)
- Rochester’s Cascade Park Receives $2 Million Donation This gift, made by the J.A. Wedum Foundation, will be used to develop this New York State park. (5/3/16)
- KCAI Receives $1.5m Donation And Breaks Ground On New Studio For Arts And Technology The Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) has received a gift from the David T. Beals III Charitable Trust. (5/2/16)
- UCF downtown campus gets $1 million from BB&T Bank The University of Central Florida is receiving this gift to help them build a campus in downtown Orlando. (5/2/16)
- Virginia Tech unveils per-seat donation requirements for football, men's hoops season-ticket holders So...if you want a seat, you need to make a minimum "gift". Not sure if I could or would call this philanthropy. (5/2/16)
- Franklin Park couple provide McGuire Memorial with its largest gift Robert and Christine Pietrandrea have donated $4 million to McGuire Memorial. McGuire Memorial, a Pittsburgh-based charity, was founded by the Felician Sisters in 1963 to care for children with special needs. The Pietrandrea's gift will be used to expand the chapel at McGuire Memorial, to build a home for respite care, to construct an activity center at The School at McGuire Memorial and to develop a playground and park. - Dixie State receives largest donation in school history, renames football stadium Bright as the sun this gift is. Dixie State University is renaming their football venue to Legend Solar Stadium in recognition of the $10 million gift from Legend Solar. Legend Solar is co-owned by Shaun Alldredge and Shane Perkins. Alldredge is an alumnus of Dixie State. (4/29/16)
