Vanderbilt Returns Donation, Axes 'Confederate' From Residence Hall Name Naming rights were given to the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1935 for a $50,000 gift. The gift agreement required that Vanderbilt return the funds in current dollars in order to change the name. How much is $50,000 worth in 2016? $1.2 million. Anonymous donors stepped up to cover this cost. Congratulations Vanderbilt and thank you to those anonymous donors. (8/16/16)

Nantucket Cottage Hospital eyes bigger construction project after $10M donation This gift, from real estate executive Bruce Percelay and his wife Elizabeth, is the largest family gift of any kind in the history of the island. Nantucket is a tiny, isolated island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts. (8/16/16)
$7 million donation will fund Buchanan H.S. scholarships The donation comes from the estate of Walter Schirmer, a 1954 graduate of Buchanan High. Buchanan is located in Michigan. (8/11/16)
