  • Women’s baseball players could soon have a league of their own again (AP News) More please. Heightened interest in women’s sports in recent years made this an ideal time to launch a women’s baseball league, said co-founder Justine Siegal, the first woman to coach for an MLB team with the Oakland Athletics in 2015."

"It's a brisk, bright autumn morning when Julie-Ann McNeilly comes barrelling down a dirt road, steps out of her van and dives deep into the history of Johnny's Store. Built in 1902, the shop is believed to be one of the oldest in Alberta and has long served as a gathering spot in the hamlet of Namao, just north of Edmonton. At one time, it also housed a post office, and McNeilly's grandmother worked as one of Alberta's first postmistresses."

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), which released the report on Tuesday, called it a map of the landscape of mental health, addictions and substance use in the country. 'We are not doing well,' said Sarah Kennell, the group's national director of public policy, in an interview. 'For many Canadians, mental health is in fact grim.'"

  2. Having kids, is it still a thing? (CBC) CANADIAN STORY "Fewer people are having kids in Canada. Right now our country's birthrate sits at 1.26 children born per woman, among the lowest in the world. It's a pressing issue that economists, politicians and entrepreneurs are all talking about, but what's driving this trend depends on who you ask."

  3. VIDEO: When did Christmas cards get so intense? As the mental load piles up, some families are opting out (CBC) CANADIAN STORY #HolidayStress "If you've ever ordered matching holiday plaids in September for a fake sleigh ride in October, then you might be familiar with the modern parental tradition of family photo Christmas cards. Depending on your point of view, they're either a cherished custom that brings you joy, or an unnecessary burden during a time of year when the mental load is already so heavy you feel it in your bones."

The land, near the Genesee Natural Area, is in a part of the province known as the aspen parkland boreal fringe, where Bill Greenhough hunted, farmed and advocated for conservation — passions that live on in his children. 'I guess we come by it naturally. So it's kind of his gift to us. Marzell was driving on Highway 30 near Brossard, Que., when he noticed the steering wheel tugging him a bit to the left. As he headed into a curve, Marzell said he made his own adjustments to keep the car to the left of the centre line.
